California Proposition 65 Compliance

WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including formaldehyde, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information go to www.p65warnings.ca.gov

Warning applies to State of California only.

The molded fiberglass component of the plenum is the material containing Formaldehyde, used in the resin as binder for the fibers. This material is sandwiched between the aluminum foil on the back of the diffuser, and the black mat inside the diffuser.

Fiberglass is a very common material used in diffuser plenums, usually for its acoustical and thermal insulation properties. Most HVAC diffuser manufacturer use it without a covering mat on the inside, leaving the molded fiberglass in direct contact with the air.

We’ve decided from day 1, when designing the product and long before the recent Proposition 65 regulation update, to add a black mat inside our plenums to prevent direct contact of the airflow with fiberglass.

We are one of the rare manufacturers – if not the only one – who opted for this costly option. We did it because although our primary mission is to improve people’s comfort and productivity, we strongly believe that health is a prerequisite to both, and that it should always come first.

Why do I see this note?

We publish this warning as a preventive measure in order to be fully compliant with Proposition 65 requirements, because our REV diffuser hasn’t been tested for its Formaldehyde exposure level yet. Unsure whether it is below or above the limit, we prefer to issue the warning for California residents and be fully compliant with the regulation.

The official Proposition 65 website (https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/) states that:

If a warning is placed on a product label or posted or distributed at a workplace, a business, or in rental housing, the business issuing the warning is aware or believes that it is exposing individuals to one or more listed chemicals.

By law, a warning must be given for listed chemicals unless the exposure is low enough to pose no significant risk of cancer or is significantly below levels observed to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

What is Proposition 65?

As per the official Proposition 65 (https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/): Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.  These chemicals can be in the products that Californians purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. By requiring that this information be provided, Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about their exposures to these chemicals.
